by MySwissWorld & Swiss Food Box Team
We welcome you to our newest interview in our weekly series. Here we interview each week somebody from the community and learn a bit more about their lives.
This week, Margaret, living in Corrimal, Australia 🇦🇺, tells us about her life in “Down Under”. Thank you very much for participating, Margaret! Your boxes will leave next week Zurich in direction to Australia. 😀
What is your name and where are you living now?
My name is Margaret Wälchli and I live in Corrimal, NSW, Australia. I worked as the Head of IT at a Health Fund but I am retired now.
What is your connection to Switzerland? Have you been born there, or do you have some roots in Switzerland?
My Parents are Swiss - my Mum from Solothurn and my Dad from Bern. They came to Australia in 1949. We lived in Switzerland when I was 3 & 4 years old. I speak Swiss and I lived in Switzerland and Liechtenstein for 2 years when I was 21. My husband is also Swiss from Muenchenbuchsee.
You can take people out of Switzerland but you can’t take Switzerland out of peoples hearts.
What is the thing that you miss about Switzerland the most?
Family, friends, mountains, culture & food.
I really miss the high standards and quality that the Swiss commit to. In everything they do, you can count on it ❤️. Travelling by train is our favourite thing in Switzerland.
What do you think is better or do you like more in your new country?
Australia is a big country with diverse landscapes and climate, rainforests, deserts, mountains, snow, oceans. It’s truly amazing.
Do you have any plans of returning soon? For vacations or permanently.
Only for vacations. Many more visits to see our loved ones and travel on the trains.
