We welcome you to our newest interview in our weekly series. Here we interview each week somebody from the community and learn a bit more about their lives. This week, from Long Island, USA:

Marion Flubacher, an Aerospace and Military quality systems consultant, who currently resides in Long Island, New York, talks about her journey from Switzerland to the United States. Born in Olten, Switzerland, Marion had initially planned on staying in the US for a year but life had a different path planned for her.

What is your name and where are you living now?

My name is Marion Flubacher and I live on Long Island New York. I am consultant for Aerospace and Military quality systems. I worked for a company in Switzerland. One day a businessman from another company with the headquarter on Long Island, NY came into the office. I asked him if he would have a job in the States for me. He said yes. I got a visa for three years, but only wanted to stay a year in the States to improve my English. Back then I was in a relationship. Well, that did not work out. I stayed in the States, got my bachelor’s degree and then my master’s degree. Met my current partner (we are together 22 years:) and we have our own business implementing quality systems for Aerospace and Commercial businesses.

What is your connection to Switzerland? Have you been born there, or do you have some roots in Switzerland?

I was born in Olten and moved to the States in the late 90's.

What is the thing that you miss about Switzerland the most?

The beautiful mountains, the culture and of course some of the food such as bread, yoghurt, sweet bakery stuff. RIVELA and ZWEIFEL chips:)

What do you think is better or do you like more in your new country?

The endless opportunities the USA provides you.

Do you have any plans of returning soon? For vacations or permanently.

I am not planning to return to Switzerland permanently. I built my life here and I am happy where I am with my life. I might take a trip home over the next few years.
