par MySwissWorld & Swiss Food Box Team

We welcome you to our newest interview in our weekly series. Here we interview each week somebody from the community and learn a bit more about their lives. This week, from Vancouver, Canada:
Andrea, an elementary school teacher based in Burnaby, British Columbia, has found her second home in Vancouver, Canada since 2009. Originally from Switzerland, Andrea ventured to Canada after completing her studies at the "Gymnasium" and embarked on a journey to learn English for six months. Little did she know that this would lead to a life-changing connection.
What is your name and where are you living now?
My name is Andrea, and I am living in Vancouver, Canada. I have moved here in 2009. I am an elementary school teacher in Burnaby BC. I am teaching a grade 2/3 class this year. My husband is an electrical engineer at UBC. Bryan, our son, is still in highschool.
What is your connection to Switzerland? Have you been born there, or do you have some roots in Switzerland?
I was born and raised in Switzerland. After finishing the "Gymnasium", I went to Canada for 6 months to learn English. I stayed with a Swiss family in Kamloops. When I returend back to Switzerland, the son of the family I styed with was doing an internship in Switzerland- well the rest is history. We have been together since 😉
What is the thing that you miss about Switzerland the most?
I miss my family and friends. The old buildings with all the history is also something I miss in Vancouver.
What do you think is better or do you like more in your new country?
I grew up in a very small town. It is nice to be able to go to a store without bumping into your neighbour.
Do you have any plans of returning soon? For vacations or permanently.
We will be back for a visit this summer!
