Swiss Expat Story: Stephanie in Napa County, California
par MySwissWorld & Swiss Food Box Team
We welcome you to our newest interview in our weekly series. Here we interview each week somebody from the community and learn a bit more about their lives. This week, Stephanie tells us more about his life in the United States. 🇺🇸
Stephanie runs a laboratory and does quality control for a sparkling wine house in Napa County, California. She has family in Switzerland, specifically in Ticino, and spent many months of her youth in the Lugano area. She misses the beauty and freshness of Switzerland, but is happy to be living in California with her family. Stephanie hopes to return next September for Des Alpes. Thank you for participating Stephanie! Your two boxes will leave next week Switzerland. 😀
What is your name and where are you living now?
My name is Stephanie. I run a laboratory and do quality control for a sparkling wine house in Napa County.
What is your connection to Switzerland? Have you been born there, or do you have some roots in Switzerland?
My grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins live in various regions of Switzerland but all herald from Ticino originally. I recall spending months every year of my youth in the Lugano area. I still visit regularly but not always to see family. I rarely miss seeing the cows come down the hills in September.
What is the thing that you miss about Switzerland the most?
I miss the affect to my senses. The beauty is incomparable to anywhere. The food always tastes local. The air smells fresher. If I could afford to spend more time in Switzerland I would.
What do you think is better or do you like more in your new country?
My family and life is here and I'm fortunate to live in California where we are somewhat progressive. If I were to move however, it would be to Switzerland where they have values that align with mine. And the food!
Do you have any plans of returning soon? For vacations or permanently.
I am writing this from Zermatt right now! (Interview from November 2022) I hope to return next September for Des Alpes.
